This past March, Realtor.com® put Columbus at number 1 on their list of hottest markets – beating out Boston as well as Sacramento! These rankings are based on the number of hits each home listing received and how quickly the homes were selling in cities around the U.S. For cities like Columbus, this is an indication that the seller’s market is still hot! Realtor.com’s article opens with,
“While the market slowed down in March compared with the same time last year, an unexpected hot spot has emerged.”
Ohio markets have claimed three of the top 20 spots in Realtor.com’s monthly ranking. This is largely due to these areas being among the country’s most affordable areas and attracting lots of buyer interest. This is a significant improvement. Even compared to last year – when Columbus ranked below pricier markets in San Francisco and San Jose, California.
Market slowdowns in big cities like San Francisco are improving real estate markets in the midwest, according to Realtor.com’s Cheif Economist Danielle Hale,
“Historically there wasn’t much demand in those areas. Now that home prices are higher across the board, people are looking to those [more wallet-friendly] areas to buy. Columbus is super affordable, with a median $249,900 compared to the national listing price of $300,000, which attracts a lot of younger buyers.”
A hot real estate market is not only great news for Columbus as a whole. This current market will benefit sellers… and their agents! There has never been a better time to become a real estate agent.
