Ohio Pre-Licensing Education Courses

Below, you’ll find the 4 required courses you need to become a licensed real estate agent in Ohio. These courses can be taken in any order and can be completed online, in the classroom, or a combination of both. Individual online courses can be accessed immediately after registration. If you prefer to take your courses in the classroom, you can select your individual course schedule AFTER you complete your purchase. Learn how to create a dynamic career in real estate sales! The 40-hour course covers the theory and concepts of the field of real estate. Topics include property management, leasing, title closing, income analysis, license law, brokerage real estate transactions, property ownership and rights, marketing, land development, and building construction.

This 40-hour course covers responsibilities and requirements for real estate sales and broker licensing. Topics include sources of real estate law, Ohio’s judicial structure, the procedures in a typical legal action, and an introduction to process law.

The 20-hour course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the instruments, procedures, methods, institutions, and markets involved in real estate financing.

This 20-hour course is designed to provide the student with a basic understanding of the theory, procedure, and methods of real estate appraising and the three approaches to appraisal.

1.) Complete 4 Courses (120 Hours) of Approved Pre-Licensing Education

Ohio license law requires 120 hours of education:

  • 40 hours of Real Estate Principles and Practices
  • 40 hours of Real Estate Law
  • 20 hours of Real Estate Appraisal
  • 20 hours of Real Estate Finance

2.) Select Your Sponsoring Broker

Before you can apply to become a licensed real estate agent in Ohio, you must be sponsored by a broker. We offer career nights to help you with networking. You will be able to meet with hiring companies, learn about your local market, and speak with brokers about everything that is happening in your industry!

3.) Turn In Your Application

You must submit a completed Salesperson Examination Application, pay the fee, and submit proof that you have completed your education requirements (like your certificates of completion from Hondros College) to the Ohio Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing. Once the division has received your information they will process your application and send your information to the testing vendor.

Please Note: The Ohio Division of Real Estate now requires real estate applicants to have their fingerprints processed for background checks within ten days after filing their application. If you have completed a background check prior to submitting your application, please call the ODRE at 614-466-4100 to review your status.

4.) Schedule your test

Once your application has been processed, you will receive a Candidate Information Bulletin with instructions for scheduling your test.
