Salesperson

  • Be at least of 18 years of age; Applicants may take the exam at age 17, but cannot activate license until 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalency
  • Successfully complete the required 75 - hours Salesperson Pre-license Course
  • Complete a background check – which must be brought to the AMP testing center (not the Commission) prior to receiving a license.  *If the report indicates any crime convictions or sanctions by any licensing or regulatory agency, then the Commission will conduct an investigation and decide whether or not to issue the license.
    • In order to verify a background check, the Commission/Board requires all applicants to obtain and submit a Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) report, or an equivalent state-wide criminal background report from their state of residence for non-resident applicants.
    • No more than 60 days prior to making application for a license approval, each candidate for licensure at his/her own expense must obtain a certified criminal history report (GCIC). You may obtain a GCIC report from most local sheriff's offices or police stations in Georgia.
    • Any candidate for licensure who has been convicted of a crime or sanctioned by any licensing or regulatory agency of any kind must reveal that fact on his or her application. You must report previous convictions even if you have been pardoned or have been told that the offence is no longer on your record. If you are aware of any conviction in any state or country, nolo contendere plea, or first offender sentence that is NOT on the GCIC report, you MUST disclose it (them). Failure to disclose any conviction, nolo contendere plea, First Offender sentence or disciplinary actions can result in denial of a license.
    • Candidates for licensure that do not reside in Georgia should obtain a criminal background report from their state of residence or a National Crime Information Center [NCIC] report. Candidates for licensure who have been convicted of a crime in more than one state will need to obtain an NCIC. For more information on obtaining an NCIC visit the FBI website.

Application

  • Applicants must take and successfully pass a qualifying examination prior to license approval. (The exam is administered by Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP) and has been developed to protect the public interest by assuring that potential licensees understand basic legal requirements and business practices in the real estate brokerage industry.)
  • Applying for the examination online at goamp.com
  • The exam fee is $115
  • Any individual who successfully passes the salesperson licensing examination may apply to activate his or her license with a broker using the Sponsoring Broker Statement Application located in the candidate handbook. The application must be signed by the sponsoring broker.

Exam

  • If you are applying for your license within 3 months from taking your exam, the fee will be $170.00.
  • If you are applying for your license more than three months, but less than 12 months from taking your exam, the fee will be $340.00.
  • No personal checks, company checks and cash are not accepted.

Post-licensing Education Requirements

  • Salespersons must take a 25 hours salespersons post-license course in their first year of licensure. Failure to complete will cause license to lapse.

Continuing Education

  • All active licensees licensed after 1/1/1980 must complete at least thirty-six (36) hours of approved continuing education course work during each four year renewal period.
