Trainee Appraiser

Required Coursework:

The required courses to become an Appraisal Trainee total 75 hours.

College Degree Requirements:

None

Experience Requirement:

None

Licensed Residential Appraiser

Required Coursework:

The required courses to become a Licensed Residential Appraiser total 150 hours.

College Degree Requirements:

30 semester credit hours of college-level education from an accredited college, junior college, community college, or university; OR an Associate’s degree or higher (in any field).

Experience Requirement:

2,000 hours of experience in no fewer than 12 months.

Certified Residential Appraiser

Required Coursework:

The required courses to become a Certified Residential Appraiser total 200 hours.

College Degree Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or higher (in any field) from an accredited college or university.

Experience Requirement:

2,500 hours of experience in no fewer than 24 months.

Certified General Appraiser

Required Coursework:

The required courses to become a Certified General Appraiser total 300 hours.

College Degree Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or higher (in any field) from an accredited college or university.

Experience Requirement:

3,000 hours of experience in no fewer than 30 months (of which 1,500 hours must be in non-residential appraisal work).

Please note that the above are national requirements, and individual states may adopt varying requirements.  Applicants for a real estate appraiser credential should always check with their state appraiser regulatory agency for individual state requirements.
