Guide to Getting your Ohio Real Estate License
Getting your real estate license in Ohio is only a few, short steps away.
To ensure that you’re giving yourself the best opportunity to pass your exam and jumpstart your career. We recommend taking the following best practices.
Step 1 – Attend an Open House
Not sure where to start? No worries! Sign up for one of our Open House events at a convenient campus near you and learn more about a real estate career. You’ll be able to ask any of your unanswered questions, tour the campus, meet the instructors and staff, and mingle with other students and real estate professionals. If you sign up for your classes that night, you’ll even receive a special discount to make getting started even more affordable. Show more.
Step 2 – Start your Classes
After you’re registered, you’ll need to complete 120 hours of required courses to sit for the Ohio exam. These required courses include: 40 hours of Principles & Practices, 40 hours of Law, 20 hours of Finance, and 20 hours of Appraisal. All these courses can be completed online or at one of our campuses located around the state. You can even mix and match online and classroom! Step 3 – Attend Career Night
Current Hondros real estate students have the opportunity to attend a Career Night at one of our campus locations. At this exclusive event, you can meet with real estate brokerages looking to hire new, real estate professionals. All Ohio real estate students will need a sponsoring broker to sign your exam application. So, stop by one of our Career Night events, network with industry professionals and find the brokerage that is the right fit for you. This is a big career advantage that online out-of-state providers can’t offer.Show more
Step 4 – Prepare for the Exam
Utilizing your exam prep tools is an essential step to ensuring that you pass your exam-the first time. We recommend taking the live Real Estate Sales Crammer Review During the Crammer course, you will learn test taking tips and how to prepare for the exam, as well as taking a mock exam that simulates the real thing. You’ll also want to continue your exam preparation with our renowned CompuCram® Exam Prep software. Step 5 – Apply for Licensure
In order to apply for licensure, you must meet the following criteria: You must be honest, truthful and of good reputation.
You must be at least 18 years old.
You must not have been convicted of a felony or crime of moral turpitude, adjudged by a court to have violated any civil rights laws regarding real estate within the past two years, or violated any rules of the Ohio Division of Real Estate.
Have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Complete the education requirements (classroom or online).
Submit an application along with your course certificates and pay applicable fees for Examination Eligibility.

Step 6 – Pass the Exam
After receiving your Examination Eligibility by completing your 120 hours of required real estate pre-licensing courses, you may register for your exam by calling 1-800-733-9267 or by going to PSIExams.com. Your exam fees must be paid to schedule your exam and these fees are nonrefundable. In the case that you need to retake the exam, you will need to submit a retake application and applicable fees to the Ohio Division of Real Estate before you can schedule a re-examination. It’s important to remember that you have one year to pass both the national and state portions of the exam once your exam application is approved.Show more

Step 8 – Complete your Post-Licensing Requirements
