CE That Sells: An Educational Event with Extraordinary Speakers

On Wednesday, April 30th Hondros College students learned from some of the best national real estate educators and state and local officials. Hondros College hosted CE That Sells, a four day continuing education event that included prominent speakers active in the legislative and legal system.  Tina Lapp, President of Hondros College, was thrilled to be offering such a package that targeted individuals in all levels of their real estate career.  “The caliber of individuals that participated and presented at this event is so appreciated and  is something we’re extremely proud of.  We believe students truly benefited from hearing such a diverse, educated and involved group of speakers and can take what they learned to help them in their careers and in servicing their clients.”

The first day of the event focused on the national outlook of the real estate industry. Karel Murray, nationally acclaimed speaker and President of the Real Estate Educators Association brought nothing but the truth to her topics of character and home inspection & the buyer client. Karel’s motivational techniques left our students with a more innovative and open minded approach to the real estate business.

On day 2, the focus switched to the Buckeye State. We welcomed a lineup of esteemed professionals who work for the betterment of the real estate industry in Ohio. Bob Kutschbach, broker and investment specialist and Hondros College real estate instructor kicked off Wednesday morning with his informative lecture on disclosure requirements for the state of Ohio, as well as tips for surviving in real estate and how to keep your license. Bob also rounded out the four day event on days three and four teaching his Current State of the Residential Investment Market, Core Ethics, Agency and Civil Rights.

Columbus City Attorney Rick Pfeiffer and 23^rd Ohio House District Representative Cheryl Grossman enlightened our students on their most recent legislative initiative: House Bill 223 Foreclosure Actions for Abandoned Residential Property. This bill strives for a more timely foreclosure process so that vacant homes do not remain empty for thieves to rip out anything of value so that the property value declines. “It was an enjoyable time sharing ideas with an interested group of real estate agents,” said City Attorney Pfeiffer. “It was obvious that the folks were thoroughly engaged and vested in what HB 223 does,” Representative Grossman explained. “I challenged each member of the class to contact their State Senators to urge their support for the bill.”

Kristin Rosan, Esq., a well-respected attorney and esteemed educator on regulatory initiatives provided our students with a class focused on broker and agent risk management as well as real estate law updates and fiduciary duties. Kristin’s course shared pathways to professionalism and she also incorporated case studies and how they related to unlicensed activity.  Her insight and presentation skills kept students at the edge of their seat and begging for more!

Franklin County Auditor Clarence Mingo and his Chief Real Estate Analyst Mark Potts came together to teach students a simplified approach to understanding Franklin County’s home valuation process. In this specific course Auditor Mingo and Mr. Potts explained the responsibilities of a homeowner during their home valuation process, the duties of the Franklin County Auditor, as well as the role of the Board of Revision. “We really enjoyed presenting information regarding the office of the Franklin County Auditor,” said Auditor Mingo. “The class had great questions and we look forward to teaching such a class again in the future.”

Ohio Association of Realtors® President Chris Hall concluded the day with a briefing on the Ohio Association of Realtors® and how the organization is a “great resource for today and tomorrow.” OAR has 27,000 members representing the largest professional trade association in Ohio, and students learned of the wonderful resources available to them to help their clients! “I enjoyed sharing the benefits of the Ohio Association of Realtors® at the CE Event. My class, as well as the others I sat through, was well accepted by the students and the questions were excellent! Well done Hondros!” said Chris.
