Hondros College announced the 2012 recipients of the Hondros College Distinguished Faculty Award and the James Dwyer Memorial Scholarship during the college’s 2012 Annual Meeting on Tuesday, December 18, 2012.

The 2012 Hondros College Distinguished Faculty Award was presented to Andrea Galassi, Hondros College Property and Casualty Insurance instructor at the school’s Cleveland Campus.  Galassi was honored as an instructor who consistently receives exceptional student feedback, offers outstanding commitment to students and staff members and as a positive ambassador of Hondros College. Galassi was also named as an integral part of the creation and implementation of the Hondros College online insurance property and casualty course, a 2012 college initiative.

“Instructor Andrea Galassi is an overall asset to Hondros College and a joy to work with,” said College of Business president, Tina Lapp. “Andrea sets the standard for commitment to her teachings and to her students. Through the Distinguished Faculty Award, Hondros College is proud to honor Andrea as an educator who inspires excellence amongst students.”

The 2012 James Dwyer Memorial Scholarship recipient was Gigi Martinez. Martinez joins Hondros College in January to pursue her education to become a licensed real estate agent in Ohio. Her goal is to serve Columbus’ diverse population and help others achieve the American dream of homeownership by bridging the English/Spanish language gap. The scholarship recognized Martinez as a motivated student and mother who balances a family and two jobs while furthering her education.

“Hondros College is pleased to honor the 2012 scholarship recipient, Gigi Martinez, someone who exemplifies strength and commitment to education,” said Lapp. “Martinez honors the memory of James Dwyer through her passion for the pursuit of excellence in real estate and her goal of instilling pride amongst new homeowners and area neighborhoods.”

The James Dwyer Memorial Scholarship honors the commitment and work of James Dwyer, a 15-year Hondros College faculty member, known for his inspiring demeanor, dedication to real estate education, unique teaching approach and positive attitude as a role model. As the 2012 recipient, Martinez received a scholarship for the Real Estate Super Start package, which includes 120 hour state required pre-licensing courses, textbooks, classroom materials, the sales review crammer, admission to real estate career night, CompuCram® examination preparation software and the state required post-licensing course.

In addition to the awards and recognition, this year’s annual meeting focused on the topic of crucial discussions, featuring guest speaker Terri Vetter from the State of Ohio Department of Administrative Service. The meeting highlighted the biggest accomplishments of the past year, the college’s charitable contributions, and recognized student and faculty leaders across Hondros College.
